Tanzania Opens $110 Million East Africa Commercial & Logistics Centre in Dar es Salaam

Tanzania has officially launched the East Africa Commercial and Logistics Centre (EACLC) in Ubungo, Dar es Salaam, in a move to strengthen regional trade infrastructure for East and Southern Africa.

Located in Ubungo, Dar es Salaam, the $110 million facility spans more than 75,000 square metres and features over 2,000 commercial units, as well as warehousing and logistics capacity. The EACLC is expected to significantly reduce trade costs and delays for inland countries that rely on the Port of Dar es Salaam, including Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The centre was developed under the oversight of the newly established Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA). Speaking at the launch, TISEZA’s Director General, Gilead Teri, highlighted the project’s economic impact, projecting the creation of more than 15,000 direct jobs and around 50,000 indirect jobs. Construction, which began in 2023, also supported more than 2,000 temporary jobs.

With this development, Tanzania is positioning itself as a logistics and trade hub for the region, while reinforcing the role of SEZs and investment authorities in driving economic transformation, job creation, and cross-border integration.
